I’m Seeing Red ~~

Just as I think I have a handle on making a header, I fall apart.  Now’s it’s the background that’s driving me crazy and I’m sure I’m going to do change after change.  It’s all so red now that if a bull saw it, he’d charge the screen.  Well, this is a work in progress and I’ll fix it by Christmas (maybe).

I’ve decided to do a little Christmas decorating this year, which is a step up in my mood with Mom not here anymore.  Better little steps than no steps at all, right?  Anyway, I’ve fallen totally in love with all these new gizmos of decor that do not have to be plugged in. No more cords!  The first purchase was window candles, then I went wild over swags, and then over string lights.  I have plans for all of it, but I never thought at all about the batteries until this morning as I was walking from room to room and counting first the windows for the candles – 20 windows to deck and that’s 2-AA’s in each.  40 batteries.  Then the swags, as I gulped at the thought of my checkbook dwindling, at 4 swags using 3-C’s, so that’s 12-C batteries.  Then on to the string lights which use 3-D’s.  I’m only using 2 of those strings on some plants in the living room, so that 6-D’s to buy.  I’ll bet these batteries end up more expensive than the amount of increase I would have seen in the electric bill with cords!  But still, any woman will tell you that all those cords twisting around everything is enough to make you want to pull the plug on the whole house.  Not men, though. They don’t care if cords are swinging through the air, hanging from the ceiling, and draped over every piece of furniture in the room.  I take that back. Don’t drape cords over the favorite chair OR the remote.  There, I feel better. No cords.

Here’s what the swags look like. No batteries yet, so none are lit with those little clear lights. Still, you get the idea.  And one of these photos also shows my mistletoe in crystal.  Yeah, sure, nobody will be under it except for 2 fur balls and myself but I like it and when the light hits all those facets, it’s terrific. Now, niftiest thing about these swags, candles, and string lights, is that they are programmable. YES!  You set the time you want them on and the time you want them to turn off.  I have been told by my neighbor (who has the same) that ONE set of batteries in each will last even more than the entire Christmas season.  See? I just gave myself another reason of why I’m going to buy out the store in batteries.  It’s all worth it!

Last, but not least, I am going to treat Beth, yes, our Beth in Illinois, bless her heart, to a horrible, awful vid I made for her last night, with none other than Lucy, the talking cat.  Hey, I promised Lucy so what else can I do?  Beth, FORGIVE MEEEE!  (As bad as this is, you have to agree that you can tell Lucy is actually paying attention)

XOXOXO

  1. I like the red here. Not too "in your face", just a nice Christmasy background. Your decorating looks very nice, almost like Martha was at your house. I can see why you need all those batteries. The AA batteries are usually quite reasonable, but the C's & D's will set ya back quite a ways. But it's only for a couple weeks and you'll love the little lights.

Lucy is a very smart kitty. Cute video.

  4. Cindy, thanks for making me feel better about all the red. Before you got here the ENTIRE page was red but then I ran the balls down the side. The header I made myself from bits and pieces of one I'd made on WLS. I took that one and added the string lights and then took it all and animated it. Lol, there's gotta be an easier way.

Carole, Awwww, you LIKED her! I'll tell Lucy and she'll fall all over herself. As for hooking her up with Mr Puddy, I'll bet he's gorgeous, but Sam would MURDER me he's so in love with Lucy :D
I know that V-E-T thing. You must spell it otherwise they always know.

Beth, Lucy is purring all over herself now. There will be no living with her, she's such a ham. I just wish I had the vid going when she's REALLY on the move, but that never happens.

  8. Nita, thanks! Actually you were the first to see the snowfall and Santa running across my page. Lol, and all this time I was worried about so much red. Now I'm wondering if I've gone overboard!
I'm heading out this afternoon to buy all the batteries in the world and then tomorrow good old "R" is coming by to help me drag out the rest of the Christmas stuff for the house.

  9. OH, and if anyone hangs around the page for a bit, they'll see that Santa starts to "climb", and around the 4th pass, he is crossing way above the houses. I love it, lol.

  13. I beg your pardon; some of us guys have an aversion to all those cords! My pet peeve is extension cords, especially if a certain small but mean whoahman (who shall remain anonymous lest she reads this and decides to tenderize my headbone with a cast iron skillet) has run them under the carpet. I used to do fire and flood clean up and restoration work and nearly every fire scene we responded to was electrical or cooking related.

  14. I love the red, snow, Santa, been trying to get him on my blogger. Got the snow on WP. But not on blogger. I love Lucy, she's a star.

  15. OK - I will not acknowledge Xmas for at least two more weeks. Here's why men don't mind cords - we don't sweep! Even when we live alone - I have dustbunnies under my bed that are being bid on by the Smithsonian. All I can think of when it comes to cords v batteries is that I can stay home warm and toasty while I rub the place I bumped tripping over a cord, but I am ALWAYS out of the type battery I need and that is a 4 to 5 mile trip. In the snow.

  16. David, I have to say...I wasn't planning on doing my page in a Christmas theme for 2 more weeks, BUT, when I finally figured out how to do it, I was afraid I'd forget by then. God, you should see all my notes on "how to". At my age, notes are good except in a day or so I won't remember where I put them. Ain't life grand?

  18. Hi Jenny, Love the Christmas look on your blog! The border of balls is so cheerful. I LIKE the red page.

I just finished reading the hilarious story about the bird fooling your mother..(I want some lettuce..)and now I got to meet your Lucy. She's so pretty! I took pictures of my new kitten zoey, but still can't find my camera cord to upload. Thanks for all of your enthusiastic remarks on my blog! 19. Oh my, Jenny, Lucy sounds like she is talking, and she's such a beauty. I hope Beth understood every word...('cos I don't speak 'cat talk' yet!!) but I'm sure she was saying hi there Beth!! ;-)
as to backgrounds and changing themes etc..you can't imagine how many shades of black (my usual choice) there are, with added little thingumabobs to jazz it up...(little stars, metallic glaze ...in fact all sorts) and that wore me out, so I can sympathise, although I agree with everyone else...that this theme of yours looks so bright and Christmassy. Just right in fact..
and your room decorations look spot on too, in fact I feel quite jealous...Hmm. must search out the box of goodies from last Christmas.. lol!! xPenx

How did you add the snow to fall or does that come with the background. How very lovely that is.
Thanks for stopping and all your kind words.
